ARCA: What Happens If You Pay the Monotributo After the Due Date
Paying the monthly fee for the monotributo helps you avoid surcharges while keeping you up to date with the tax obligations set by the Revenue and Customs Control Agency (ARCA). When payment is made after the due date, the agency applies various measures that impact the taxpayer's account.
In addition to interest, the debt remains recorded until it is settled. Therefore, knowing the deadline for each period, the authorized means to pay the fee, and what can happen if non-compliance extends over several months is essential.
When the Monotributo Fee is Due and How to Pay It
The monotributo is due on the 20th of each month, but if that date falls on a weekend or holiday, the deadline automatically moves to the next business day. The monthly fee combines three components into a single payment: the tax component, retirement contributions, and health insurance.
ARCA requires monotributistas from all categories to make payments through electronic channels. The only exception applies to those in the social monotributo, members of work cooperatives, and promoted independent workers, who can also access in-person payment options.
To settle the obligation, it is first necessary to generate an Electronic Payment Slip (VEP) from the "Submission of DDJJ and Payments" service or through "CCMA - Current Account for Monotributistas and Independents", both available with a Tax Key. This receipt contains all the information for the period, the amount, and the corresponding tax data.
Once the VEP is issued, the taxpayer can choose from various options to complete the payment:
- QR Code via authorized virtual wallets
- Home banking
- Electronic payment platforms like Pago Mis Cuentas, Interbanking, or PAGAR
- Website of the affiliated banking entity
- Automatic debit or card, depending on available options
The CCMA system also allows checking if payments have been correctly allocated, verifying if there are any outstanding periods, reviewing accumulated interest, and even generating new VEPs if there is any pending debt.
ARCA: What Happens When the Monotributo is Not Paid on Time
When the fee is not paid before the due date, ARCA automatically records the debt and starts calculating default interest from the following day. Although a delay of just one month does not lead to immediate exclusion from the regime, the outstanding amount will continue to increase until it is regularized. The main consequences of late payment are:
- Default interest on the owed amount
- Recording of the debt in the taxpayer's current account
- Possible difficulties in accessing tax certificates or completing certain procedures
- Payment demands issued by the agency
- Inclusion of the debt in regularization plans or, if non-compliance persists, in judicial collection instances
All of this changes when non-compliance is prolonged, as if a monotributista accumulates 10 consecutive months without paying, ARCA may order the automatic removal from the simplified regime. In this situation, the taxpayer ceases to operate as a monotributista until they regularize their situation and request re-entry, while facing other consequences:
- Inability to issue receipts under the simplified regime
- Interruption of retirement contributions
- Issues with health insurance coverage included in the fee
- Maintenance of the debt along with accumulated interest
The automatic removal does not eliminate pending obligations, so all unpaid periods remain valid and must be settled with the corresponding interest. Those needing to regularize a past-due fee can enter the ARCA portal with their CUIT and Tax Key, access the CCMA or Submission of DDJJ and Payments service, select the overdue period, consult the principal plus interest, and generate a new VEP to make the payment through any of the authorized electronic means.
In July 2026, the monthly due date corresponds to July 20 for all categories, from A to K. Starting in August, the new fees resulting from the semi-annual update will begin to be paid, while the renewed parameters will take effect from July 1, 2026.
