Thai Regulatory Agency Raids World's Iris Scanning Points in Digital Identity Project
BlockBeats News, October 24th, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman's digital identity project World (formerly known as Worldcoin) faced new issues in Thailand, where local authorities conducted a raid on an iris scanning point reportedly operated by them. The action was carried out jointly by the Thai Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB), targeting the scanning point associated with the "WLD Exchange Service." World has 102 such scanning points in Thailand. The Thai SEC and CCIB pointed out that the WLD Exchange Service provider is suspected of operating without a license, violating local digital asset laws.
World stated that the distribution of WLD tokens through identity verification is only done in regions where it is "legally permitted," with eligibility subject to factors such as geography and age. At the same time, World explicitly stated that the company is not responsible for the circulation of WLD tokens on third-party platforms (including centralized or decentralized exchanges).
