Korean Funds Increase Investment in Chinese Tech Stocks, Cambrian Leads with $2.8577 Million Net Buy in a Week
On July 22, South Korean investors have recently increased their investments in Chinese tech assets against the trend. Data shows that from July 13 to July 19, South Korean funds significantly bought into Chinese A-share tech stocks, with AI computing leader Cambrian topping the list with a net purchase of $2.8577 million in a single week.
According to data from SEIBro, a securities information portal under the Korea Securities Depository, during the same period, core Chinese semiconductor companies such as SMIC, Montage Technology, Hua Hong Semiconductor, and Zhongwei Company also received net purchases from South Korean funds in the million-dollar range.
Looking at the past month (from June 20 to July 20), Dongshan Precision ranked first among South Korean A-share purchases with a net buy of $6.4571 million, while Cambrian accumulated a net buy of $3.1986 million. AI and semiconductor-related companies like Zhongke Shuguang and Lianangwei also saw increased holdings.
In the Hong Kong stock market, South Korean investors have concentrated their investments in the Chinese tech supply chain through ETFs. In the past week, the Premia China Sci-Tech 50 ETF saw a net purchase of $3.1729 million, while the Global X China Semiconductor ETF had net purchases exceeding $3 million; over the past month, the Global X China Semiconductor ETF accumulated a net buy of $15.9148 million.
Data shows that in the first half of 2026, South Korean investors have cumulatively net bought Chinese assets worth $2.819 billion through individual stocks and ETF channels, with A-shares net purchases amounting to $678 million, a year-on-year increase of 130.55%. Semiconductor equipment, AI servers, and PCB segments of the AI supply chain have become the main allocation directions.
In the Hong Kong stock market, SMIC became the most heavily invested target by South Korean funds in the first half of the year with a net buy of $85.46 million, while Chinese AI large model company MiniMax and Alibaba ranked second and third in terms of purchase amounts.
The acceleration of South Korean funds flowing into Chinese tech assets is mainly influenced by fluctuations in the South Korean market. In the first half of this year, the KOSPI index in South Korea once rose by more than 100%, with leading AI storage stocks like Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix significantly increasing, but since July, the South Korean stock market has rapidly corrected, with the KOSPI index dropping from a historical high of 9,385 points to around 6,820 points, a decline of over 27%, and the stock prices of the two major chip giants have fallen by more than 30% in the past month.
At the same time, international institutions have also begun to increase their attention to the Chinese AI supply chain. Goldman Sachs released a report in July recommending investors reduce their holdings in South Korean AI-related assets and shift their allocations to the Chinese AI value chain, believing that the Chinese AI industry has room for valuation recovery driven by policy support, export growth, and domestic substitution.
